The cruise, "DIAPICNA: DIAzotrophic PICocyanobateria in the North
Atlantic open ocean: their abundance and importance as a source of new
nitrogen at the Azores Front/Current", was developed by 10 scientists of
the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and DOP from Azores University and
counted also with the participation of 35 Portuguese Navy Officers and
the collaboration of the Laboratoire d'Océanographie Physique et
Biogéochimique do Centro Oceanológico de Marselha (LOPB-COM ).
The
results of the cruise, aiming to increase the understanding of the
inter-linkages between the N2 and CO2 fixation processes mediated by
unicellular cyanobacteria, in particular at the Azores Front/Current
system in the North Atlantic Ocean, are now under analysis and further
information on the main conclusions will be make publically available
later on.
