Multipurpose research vessel expected to be commissioned within the first quarter of 2013. The vessel, designed mainly for coastal and regional scale oceanographic field research, will have an endurance of 15 days and provide access to a maximum of 12 scientific personnel. R/V Marmara will feature 65 m2 aft deck space and 62 m2 laboratory space. The vessel, at the time of commissioning, will be equipped with two multipurpose oceanographic winches (one with 3000 m data cable, the other with 2000 m steel cable), a hydraulic A-frame (45° total range inward/outward, 3 ton capacity) , and a knuckleboom crane (9 m range, 3 ton capacity). The vessel will also feature a class 1 dynamic positioning system with two 100 kW thrusters (bow and aft).
Onboard scientific equipment:
Multibeam survey sounder system (SEA BEAM 1050D - 3000 m maximum depth)
Single beam hydrographic survey sounder (HydroStar 4900 - 3000 m maximum depth)
Two hull-mounted deep water ADCPs (Teledyne RDI Ocean Surveyor; 75 and 150 kHZ)
CTD (SBE 911plus with a transmissometer, pH sensor, fluorometer, turbidity sensor, PAR sensor, DO sensor)
Carousel water sampler (SBE 32C)
Thermosalinograph (SBE 21)
R/V Marmara will also be equipped with laboratory equipment for chemical and biological analysis, grabs, and plankton nets.

Availability for EUROFLEETS2:
Modality of access under this proposal: Users will be provided with full access to the infrastructure and its equipment pool within the defined limits of vessel operation, functionality, duration, and location. The availability of the infrastructure for users will be determined by the infrastructure management and be announced for scheduling purposes. One or more members of the resident staff may be required to accompany users during their filed work. This vessel will be offered for 8 days in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Support offered under this proposal: TUBITAK will provide full navigational, technical, and logistic support for third party field work. The crew will operate deployment equipment and, if requested, technician support may be provided to operate scientific equipment. Food, accommodation, communication, and recreational space will also be provided.
Travel and shipment costs for "Regional 3 Call":
• European funding will cover use of the vessels (with some berth
limitation in some cases), full crew, fuel (at economical service speed,
for details contact vessel operator), victuals and other standard
operating costs. Travelling for the embarked team and transport of
equipment will be covered up to a maximum amount designated to each
• Grantees will not invoice the EUROFLEETS2 Consortium or respective
vessel operator for any additional or third-party costs, such as salary
