The workshop is organized as a side event of the “EMODnet week” that takes place in Ostend from Monday 19 till Thursday 22 October.

§  What is EARS about?

EARS stands for “Eurofleets Automatic Reporting System”. It is a software developed by EUROFLEETS2 partners(*) in order to provide scientists and technicians working on board research vessels with a versatile and portable tool for logging events relevant for documenting measurements.

EARS has the ambition of becoming a standard tool on board European research vessels, hence enhancing the interoperability of the fleets and the mobility of technicians and scientists.

Wednesday,
October 21st, 9:00 – 17:00: “EARS for advanced users”

Target audience: IT technicians operating on research vessels, scientists with IT skills

§  General architecture of EARS and its inclusion in various environments

§  Installation procedure

§  Maintenance

§  Usage

§  Feedback of users

Breakfast, lunch and health breaks will be served in a dedicated room.

Computers, running either Windows or Linux, will be provided by the local organizers.

Thursday,
October 22nd, 9:00 – 13:30: “EARS in a nutshell”

Target audience: vessel operators, scientists

§  General EARS concepts

§  General architecture of EARS and its inclusion in various environments

§  Vocabularies: concepts and implementation in EARS

§  How to use EARS Manual Event Entry GUI

§  Venue

The workshop will take place in the Royal Astrid Hotel (www.royalastrid.com/ENG/), Wellingtonstraat 15, Ostend, a very comfortable and convenient venue, close to the beach and the centre of Ostend and only a few tram stops away from the train station. It is located within walking distance (800m) from the venue for the EMODnet Open Conference (“De Grote Post”).

Twenty (20) rooms have been blocked in the hotel at  a cost of € 85.12 pernight (taxes included)  . If you want to avail of these rooms, you must make the reservation yourself  directly by email at reservaties@royalastrid.com before October 15th, mentioning “EUROFLEETS” in the request.

§  EMODnet

The EARS workshop is organized as a side event of the EMODnet conference and jamboree that take place the same week in Ostend (nearby our workshop venue). We particularly recommend you to register for the EMODnet Open Conference on Tuesday, October 20th, a unique opportunity to discover the EU Commission initiative to foster marine knowledge throughout Europe.

§  Fees

The organisation costs of the workshop itself, including breakfast, health breaks and lunches
are covered by EUROFLEETS2.

On request, the project can reimburse part of the travel and subsistence costs to participants working for a ship operator which is a EUROFLEETS2 beneficiary. Those interested should indicate it when submitting their registration details.
