Fully equipped research vessel for varied survey operations including environmental sampling, hydrographic and marine geological investigations, trawl surveys and fisheries acoustics. Provide 9x8 m2 lab space on the main deck for analytic and web labs, where biological, chemical and nutrient analysis are carried out.
Onboard scientific equipment:
Sea-Bird Model 9 CTD profiling system with a General Oceanics rosette sampler (12 bottles of 5 liter); Echo- sounder; Trawl winch. The CTD and the rosette are operated using a Lebus hydrographic winch with a 3000 m cable. Hull mounted Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler. For on-board analyses an automatic Winkler titration system, an auto-analyzer, an in-situ spectrofluorometer, an irradiance meter as well as other instruments are available. The vessel is fully equipped for fisheries and marine biological studies. Some of the major equipments for these investigations are a Norlau hydraulic trawl winch of 7.5 tons and 2 X 1500m wire capacity, a hydraulic net winch of 6 ton capacity. Marine geological investigations are carried out using an EG&G Uniboom shallow seismic system, side-scan sonars, and various corers. Mobile scientific equipment on request:
Accommodate a wide variety of mobile equipment including various corers, plankton nets and van Veen grab and set of sieves; Portable Sentinel Workhorse ADCP (300kHz); Portable SIMRAD EK60 - 120 kHz scientific echosounder.
Science support by crew:
Deck crew: 24h operations supported; Regular technical support for onboard science systems through SSB.
Availability for EUROFLEETS:
RV Bilim-2 will be made available to the EUROFLEETS project for a total of 8 days, this duration can be extended to a maximum of 12 days for well evaluated projects, subject to budget availability. The vessel will be available all year round for work in the Eastern Mediterranean. Mobilisation and demobilisation needs to be carried out in a Turkish harbour.
Travel and shipment costs:
Travelling costs for cruise participants and the shipment of equipment to the port of mobilisation and back from the port of demobilisation will be reimbursed up to a maximum of 21.000€. If higher costs are incurred they have to be covered by the applicant.
Requirements for scientist:
The participants are expected to have a valid health and compensation insurance relevant to the research activities at sea. The participants are also asked to sign Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk, and Indemnity Agreement.
