Gdańsk, Poland – 19 to 20 May 2011
The European Maritime Day Conference will take place in Gdańsk, Poland on 19-20 May 2011. The conference is co-organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland, Office of the Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship, and the City of Gdańsk.
In total, this two-day conference will feature two plenary sessions and 18 parallel sessions on a wide range of themes and topics of relevance to the oceans and seas across Europe. One of the parallel sessions to be held on 19 May is titled ‘The ecosystem-based approach in practice in managing activities related to the sea’ and will feature BONUS, the joint Baltic Sea research and development programme.
The European Maritime Day is celebrated annually across Europe to demonstrate the importance of the sea and oceans for everyday life, both in coastal communities and in landlocked areas. It also highlights the opportunities and challenges currently facing maritime regions and sectors.
