Description

Fundação EurOcean is an independent, scientific, nongovernmental organisation of leading European marine organisations whose aim is to develop information exchange and develop information products in the field of marine sciences and technologies between a wide range of governmental and non-governmental bodies.

The EurOcean Foundation is presently composed of 12 Members, which are key European marine research and funding organisations as well as groups focused on marine outreach and Blue Growth development. Members are FCT (PT), GeoEcoMar (RM), IEO (ES), Ifremer (FR), HAVFO (NO), IOPAN (PL), MI (IE), VLIZ (BE), FRCT- Azores (PT), NAUSICAÄ (FR), CNR (Italy) and SUBMARINER Network (Baltic region) Cooperating members are the IOC-UNESCO (Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission), CPRM (Conference of the Peripheral Maritime Regions) and FdM (Fondation de Malte). As such EurOcean has strong connections with national and international bodies related to marine research, research infrastructures, research applications and dissemination of best practices and information in the marine field.

Focus activities include development and maintenance of InfoBases of marine relevant information and knowledge. In particular one of the key stones of the organization is the Marine Research Infrastructures database, cataloguing over 900 facilities and pieces of equipment, including research vessels, all over Europe and beyond. 

In addition, the Marine Knowledge Gate catalogues over 6000 European and nationally funded marine projects and their results. We have developed comprehensive experience in communications & dissemination of information on marine research activities and projects, through participation in numerous FP7 and H2020 projects, including Eurofleets as the responsible organization for dissemination.

Role

EurOcean are the Work Package Leaders of WP9 Dissemination and Communication.

EurOcean will also undertake activities in WP1 Project Management, WP3 JRA: Joint Research Activities, WP5 Stakeholder engagement, and WP8 Foresight: Legacy and Roadmap.
