JRA3.1. Advancing shipboard data management and data access

JRA3.1. Advancing shipboard data management and data access
JRA 3.2 Equipment innovations for deep sea operations from vessels
JRA 3.3: Intelligent robot exploration

T3.1.1 Reviewing and upgrading the design and functionality of the EVIOR portal
T3.1.2 Reviewing and upgrading the suite of shipboard software components
T3.1.3 Outfitting the Eurofleets+ fleet
T3.1.4: Developing a “virtual playground” as part of the EVIOR portal
T3.1.5: Optimizing solutions for telepresence and real-time data transfer (e-access)
T3.1.6 Processing of en route data from research vessels

Shipboard software and services, the EVIOR portal, and communication from ship to shore will be reviewed, upgraded and integrated to create an advanced Eurofleets+ data management system. JRA3.1 activities will be supportive and complementary to other project activities, particularly in WP2, WP4, WP6, WP7 and WP9. In addition to technological development, activities will include implementing and operating the data management components, such as equipping research vessels; compiling up-to-date and complete collections of metadata and data from cruises; and arranging virtual access (VA) to the metadata and data through the Eurofleets+ cruise data and information portal (EVIOR) and related European and international community portals (SeaDataNet, EurOBIS, EMODnet, GEOSS, IOC-IODE portal, and in the near-future EOSC). There will also be European and international tuning and collaboration, for example with the EU Ocean Data Interoperability Platform (ODIP 2), EU SeaDataCloud, USA NSF Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R) program, and the Schmidt Ocean Institute (USA).
